I'm not sure whether or not that means that it doesn't exist, or that for some reason BA can't get at it. One thing worth doing is checking for award availability on the QF website, if you have access to it.
Well, the flight I want is available on both QF and CX award searches (and CX even has prem econ and J availablity, that BA and QF don't show)
Just tried again with BA and the error is now "We're sorry, but ba.com is very busy at the moment, and couldn't deal with your request. Please do try again - if it still doesn't work, it may be better to try again at another time." ...

but this is a one-way direct flight, which I only want to book with avios as I may need to cancel it - the non-flexible cash price is not bad
