BKK does not have have good connections to Australia both ways. Usually you need to wait 18 hours in one direction or another. In fact I can get to Australia using TK and Air China with an extra stop, talking a few hours longer in one direction and a few hours less in the other than the LY BKK and HKG connections, and I frequently do. (also the service is better and the frequency and there are backup flights, none of which LY provide.
That may be so, however EL AL adding an onward segment from BKK to MNL just to drop off and pick up a few Australian bound pax is not a financially worthwhile endeavor.
What EL AL should do is coordinate with QF so that the wait time in BKK both ways is less than it currently is now. Also, once EL AL develops an Eastern Mediterranean regional route network (which is what they are currently working on developing as per the advice of my business plan I submitted to them) they could get more QF pax to transit through BKK on LY to those destinations.
