I intend to cancel the card end of Dec. as I have similar insurance benefits on the Visa Infinite Avion and will receive benefits like fast lane and MLL access through tier status with AC. My fear is now if anything happens and I'd need the trip cancellation/interruption insurance that comes with the Plat card, it will be a problem since the card is cancelled. Most likely I won't need it but you never know - it would suck to be caught like that.
If I cancelled in February, would I still have to pay for the entire year or would they reimburse me for 10 or 11 months? (In that case I would contemplate keeping the card).
I know I should call Amex and ask about this but was wondering if anybody had any experience on this already.
Find the insurance policy on the Amex website, I believe it says the account must be in good standing, so no insurance once card is cancelled.
If you cancel within the first two months after renewal, you should get 100% of the annual fee refunded. After that - prorated refund.
