We have something similar in the new terminal here although it's independent doors, not a single piece that rotates.
OP wasn't suggesting that the same metal cheese grater that the NYC subway uses (as well as hundreds of other places in the world, including my university) be implemented in airports.
OP was saying that the subway has figure out a solution to only allowing one-way traffic. So there's certainly ways of doing it without these portals.
You could do a large revolving door that has a sensor with an alarm if you try continuing past the 180 degree point
