Not necessarily. On DL, a lot of international destinations to the caribbean, central America, etc. are serviced by 737s and have wifi at least while over the US. You'll lose the service once you head out over water or out of the country.
ATL<->MEX typically has service except within ~55 minutes of MEX, for instance.
But yeah I would check the AS forum since it's AS metal.
About to do. Would have to MEX->ATL->LAX or such otherwise, but likely worth it for me...
