Completely the opposite from my experience at this hotel. I have stayed there once or twice a year for several years and have received upgrades to suites 100% of the time. I just completed a 3 night stay followed 5 days later by a 4 night stay and on both occasions received the same 20th floor suite without having to ask. Despite giving me taking the 500 points amenity, they always also send a fruit bowl, bottle of wine, chocolates and package of dates to the room.
In fact, on my last visit I asked the agent upon check-in if I had a choice of breakfast in the lounge or in the buffet restaurant and was told that I'd need to choose the breakfast as my amenity if I wanted to take it in the restaurant. I told him I was happy to have breakfast in the lounge and would take the points instead. Despite this, he offered me complimentary passes to try the breakfast in the restaurant one day.
This is a well managed hotel with great service and they know how to treat their Platinum guests.
