My experience with ML*1 and ML*2 also comes into what class fare I booked at. If I fly on a full Y ticket, it shows up as ML*2 to indicate that you get 2 times the regular domestic miles. If I fly on one of the cheaper fares, it shows up as ML or ML*1 and I end up getting the regular mileage, which is 50%.
