Miyazaki (Kyushu) - Should I Go?
Hi,
I will be flying from Incheon Korea to Fukuoka Japan and have a choice between 2 flights. 1) Nonstop on Jan 6 -- 2) 24 hour free stop in Miyazaki arriving 11:40 AM Jan 3 (so basically full day 1/3/14 in Miyazaki, fly to FUK early 1/4). Normally I would jump at the chance but I'm a little hesitant because of Japan's early Jan holiday season. Will I find worthwhile things to do in Miyazaki Jan 3 or will city be dead?
Is anyone familiar with Miyzaki and have info on what will be open that day? The shrines and parks should be open, Prefecture museum is closed, not sure about Art museum (website not specific). Are the department and local stores and restaurants open--people walking around the streets like a semi-normal day? I'm not a beach person -- don't enjoy nature for more than a few minutes either.
HOTEL-I can get a great rate at the Sheraton by the beach but have decided to stay in town as it will be an quicker/easier train commute to the airport 1/4 for my early flight and I do enjoy a city more. Got great adv booking rate at JAL city center (5600 yen) and I belong to their programs (so possible upgrade/other benefits) which is 10 min walk from main train station. Also considering Richmond hotel which is slightly more expensive but right at the station. Both well rated in Tripadvisor. Any feedback?
Also, if anyone has some off-the-beaten path things to do in Miyazaki or great restaurants for a single person who does not speak Japanese and won't have a car I would appreciate the suggestions.
I need info asap so that I don't lose these flights. Thanks.
