This thread seems to be full of ridiculous speculation. Speculation weeks in advance of a flight about an oversale when many tickets are held by Travel Agents. I know that a lot of my tickets hold space and are not ticketed until close to departure and I'm sure DL uses a pretty good model to predict how many of these reserved but not ticketed reservations will actually be ticketed. On the LAX-SYD flight tonight on EF I see 3 unassigned J seats and availability shows J2 so I highly doubt the J cabin is oversold.

Apparently anyone on the EZE-ATL flight on 1/4 should be sweating an IDB right now since DL isn't selling seats and we are just under 2 months from departure. Point is IDB very seldom happens and DL has one of the lowest percentages in the industry. I would venture to guess that J IDBs or downgrades happen quite infrequently and they would ask for volunteers before downgrading a passenger. I'm sure the passenger has an option to switch to a different flight with business class open as well.

To say this is a DL problem is a complete joke, I had a LH flight this year from SFO that was asking for volunteers in J and offering $600 which went up to $1000 and they actually got a couple takers which shocked me. I found this particularly ironic because I saw a similar situation on LH on that Airline program on TV that takes place at the Miami airport. I don't deny that J oversells happen on DL but I think it's quite rare and for anyone on this forum to speculate a few weeks or months before a flight about a potential J oversale it's a bit ridiculous. We don't have DLs program nor data nor do we know the algorithm they use, so we aren't really in a position to question what they are doing. If there are 2000 flights a day and we hear about a J oversell on 1 flight a month, that seems pretty damn low to me. Just my two cents

And I don't believe that if the J cabin was oversold that any medallion would be the one being downgraded. Almost can guarantee it would be the kettle on the once in a lifetime J award ticket bought with transferred MR points that has no DL status being moved to make room for a Medallion booked in J or a full J fare pax.
