My point, was meant to emphasize that some of us would have to stay on the confirmed flight (in Y); since we could not afford to have a delay in getting to our destination. A delay for vacation (waiting for another BE option) is a personal choice, a delay for business would not be looked at so kindly.

Conversation with your boss : "I could have made the really important meeting, and done my presentation, but Delta downgraded me from BusinessElite so I took a later flight option in Business Class, instead of taking the flight in economy class that would have allowed me to show up for an important business agenda. I got a GREAT NIGHTS SLEEP, but we lost a client. Sorry about that."

But, I think we are in agreement, JulienMSP , being downgraded for business or pleasure trips are both really horrible (and I would claim rare) circumstances.
