Just a thought…, when somebody say “We have somebody who speaks English…” in Japan it is unlikely that a person reads, speaks, and writes English as native speaker. There is a good chance that a person is best at broken English. If you start to correspond as you are corresponding with native speakers, then there is good chance this person who supposed to “speak English” likely got lost trying to understand what you are trying to say. If you approach like you are talking to three years old, then there is good chance you will get through the person who supposed to “speak English” in Japan. Just a thought… This is more likely once you step out of a big city of Tokyo or Osaka and head out to country side of Japan.
