Yes, I can see HH could still make sense for US residents, but for those, like me, outside USA HiltonPeso collecting seems a poor value outcome compared to the other major international chains, Marriott and IHG. I am aware that HiltonPesos accumulate faster but not it seems to me fast enough.
MR/IHG 10 pts per $ + 50% plat bonus = 15pts per $.
HH 10 pts per $ + 50% plat bonus plus 5HH pts+pts = 20 HiltonPesos per $
Redemptions on MR/IHG run between 5,000 to 50,000 pts per night. Hilton runs from 10,000 to 95,000 pts per night (Yes I know there's a Hilton cat1, but the worldwide numbers are so utterly pathetic as to make the existence of this category pretty disingenuous).
So HiltonHonors just doesn't seem to compete with the other big groups, unless you carry the surpass card, which outside the USA isn't possible.
This is a great pity, as I have seriously been considering giving HH a go, but I just can't see the value. A week at a top category Marriott is 270,000 points, representing $18,000 spending yet the same week at a top category Hilton is 570,000 HiltonPesos, which represents $28,000 of spending. That doesn't seem a great incentive to me...
