With UA (have not had the change with US yet) I enter my Nexus ID in the Trusted Traveler field and I get PreCheck so all in all, I get the best of all worlds. From what I understand, there should be two fields to specify in your PNR, which document you will use to clear immigration (passport or Nexus) and a Trusted Traveler number. Both the Nexus and passport numbers are linked so I would have thought that either would be acceptable but your experience proves otherwise.
For AC OLCI - I thought the question dealing with document number - one is asked to put either passport number - or nexus card number (that is what it asks, it does not ask for the trusted traveler number, per se).

Please confirm how you wound up entering your nexus card at the kiosk (besides learning it from the nexus thread). I have talked to several US preclearance officials at several airports - they still say that to their knowledge, only the passport can be entered. The instructions at the kiosk only talk about the passport being entered.
