I was all set to take the Diamond Challange for Hyatt status and then boom.. the devaluation hit. So now I'm taking another look to see if I should seek SPG Plt or Hyatt but wanted to see what the FT's think.

Background:
I have a 12 night stay scheduled for the Dec and no more stays between now and Dec.
I'm 12 nights away from getting SPG Plt or
I can use these 12 nights to get Hyatt Diamond through the status challange.
All my stays will be on vacation in S.E asia with my family, so need the oppertunity to get two rooms cheap or suites to fit my family.

I was considering Hyatt becuase I have heard great things about the program and also that some properties will give you a 2nd room at 50% discount from your paid rate on a family rate.

I was Plt with SPG two years ago and enjoyed the benefits, I'm bruning my last suite upgrades this month. SPG does have far more hotels in key vacation destinations in Asia.

So what is your advice if you had a choice of top status with either SPG or Hyatt considering;
1. Best value for family vacations in Asia.
