Have you really thought it through rather than inconvenience yourself?
Computers need to be properly configured before they're taken into China, with SSH/VPN software preinstalled on them. It's easy to use SSH tunnels and VPN while in China, easy to get new VPN software while using existing VPN software, but not so easy to get VPN software without a VPN.
I think the OP has decided that not taking the computer would probably cause him/her an even greater inconvenience.
Of course, in this case, I would suggest backing up all essential programs on a Blu-Ray/DVD/CD or on a USB drive (preferably both).
