The only difference this time is I used my Citi Visa instead of my Citi Amex, in both cases the originating flight was in the US. I can assume now that BA will use a different company to process the payment if you pay with Visa vs Amex?
If you review those threads it seems that for most people the problem is with the cc company choosing to treat it as an overseas transaction rather than BA using a different processer.
