Oh well. Note, there's a Dunkin Donuts and tables at the end of the AirTrain monorail but nothing once you go through the gate to the Amtrak tracks. You can't actually scan your Amtrak ticket at the gate anyway, so you should be able to go back and forth at the whim of the gate keeper watching the turnstiles.
I was hoping to walk around a little bit (I know, why would I want to walk around Newark, yeah yeah) but as far as I can tell there is NO public street access from the end of the monorail. You have to leave the monorail from one of the parking garages if you want some freedom to roam.
You could take an NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station and have freedom to walk around Newark. Then catch the same train to ZFV. Or possibly even an earlier train. Newark Penn and Newark Airport are in the same fare zone for Amtrak.
I'm flying back from LAS-EWR-ZFV in the middle of December. What if there's a snowstorm in the northeast? Could I choose to rebook to a flight that lands in PHL, which usually gets less snow than EWR. And if I do that, would United be responsible for paying for a taxi or SEPTA train to ZFV from PHL?
