I agree with this perspective. I won't wait at the gate, but I am very careful to watch the monitors in the lounge and increasingly to also check flight status repeatedly on my laptop/ipad/phone. I don't expect the lounge dragons to remember to follow the flight or to make announcements, although this is likely to happen in small places.
