If you are talking "requalify" for Silver, different story. say after your trip you get to 35k Asiamiles... u continue that until October, reset... then start fresh. yes your "5k" will get wasted. they won't move the tier reset date to April just for this.
If OP's case is "requalify" for Silver, you may get extended (moving reset date to end of Nov) if my experience is not unique. My Silver status would had ended at end of April last year (2012), so in early May in HKG when I was paying the penalty fees at CX service counter for itinerary change for adding a side trip to TPE, the lady told me my SL reset date is extended for one month without me even asking. Then my additional flights in May (HKG-TPE r/t and HKG-SFO) got me re-qualified for SL.

This early June in HKG before my HKG-SFO flight, I called MPO and politely asked if my SL status could be extended for one month, after being put on hold for some time, I got the NO answer. I didn't feel bad or disappointed in any way because my SFO flight would not have re-qual'ed for SL.
