I once tried to report minor damage to my wife's suitcase after landing at MUC and the LH staff there told me that a suitcase was a 'Gebrauchsgegenstand' (rough translation "commodity item" / "item of daily use" according to Leo) therefore I should expect it to get scratched and dented.
