It's unlikely your insurance will go up, other than in the abstract sense that everyone's insurance goes up, and that's the whole point of insurance. Ditto it could be said of BA, if you claim from them their fares go up in the round.

I would claim from both organisations. BA generally has a good reputation, but it is important that you let both BA and your insurers know as soon as possible. There is an online claim form on BA.com, go to the Help and Contacts section in the black section at the end of the page and work your way through to baggage.
