Stephem has a good point about what it costs us to make a change at the last minute. Along these lines, it occurs to me that change fees are, to some extent, meant to compensate the airline for lost revenue if they can't sell the seat, right? So in some way it seems unfair that they can both charge a change fee AND overbook a flight.
