Mrs. dwcatty and I spent 12 hours at the LGA Marriott last Friday night. It was an uneventful stay. We would stay again under similar circumstances.
We arrived at the airport and proceeded to curbside (carry on bags only) as I called the hotel to see about the shuttle pick up. I made three separate calls letting the phone ring 10 or 12 times and no one ever picked up. As we got to the door to exit baggage claim we spotted the shuttle outside and climbed aboard. We made two stops to pick up two different sets of pilot/co-pilot and the second pair groused about waiting for thirty minutes.
The ride to the hotel was three or four minutes, max (we could see the hotel from the plane while taxiing to the gate). Check in was effortless. Mrs. dwcatty asked if there was water in the room and the FDC told us to take two bottles from the pantry. As it was a weekend and the lounge was closed we were given the option of 750 points or a voucher for continental breakfast for two. We chose breakfast.
Our room was simple, functional, clean and sufficient. The bed was divine. We slept like rocks. Our only issue was trying to make the room cooler - the thermostat did not seem to have much effect of the room temperature. It didn't affect how we slept, though. The window blinds worked well.
I went down to the restaurant in the morning carrying my breakfast coupon and the hostess let me get two of the largest cups of Starbucks coffee to take back to the room. We went back for breakfast an hour or so later and the continental was uninspiring but sufficient. I did not ask how much it cost to upgrade to the full breakfast when it was offered.
We had arranged with a car service to pick us up and take us into the city that morning so had no issues with cabs. It does appear that at least one city bus stops out front, but as we were in town for just a weekend I had applied my time/money matrix and scheduled a car. Check out was ten seconds long (we redeemed a certificate).
All in all we had no issues. One of the pilots told us his flight crew had walked to the hotel and it would certainly be doable - there were sidewalks and crosswalks at all the intersections. It is slightly uphill there, and downhill back to LGA. As I said, we would stay there again under similar circumstances.
