I saw something today and hope some one can help me understand what is happening. I don't think anything bad is happening, just curious.

I am coming back MAD-DFW AA 37 on 12/01. I was looking at the seat map and only saw 3 seats in J. I was curious to see what fare would be for these 3 seats in J. I did a dummy booking and only saw Y fare was available.

I went to EF and saw the only fare bucket was Y3. All other fare buckets were 0 (i.e. J0, R0, B0, etc). I looked at the seat map and saw more then 3 Y seats open.

Based on this information would that mean the flight is basically sold out (except Y3) and people have not selected their seats?
