Not really.

When ANZ commenced the non-stop AKL-YVR operation they specifically advertised the fact that pax no longer had to deal with transiting the U.S.

In fact right now ANZ is advertising YVR-AKL-Oz as a means of Australia bound pax bypassing the U.S! Sure AC operates YVR-SYD nonstop but Aussies tend to look to QF and NZ primarily; and QF still stops at SFO between SYD and YVR!

Similarly, Aer Lingus pulled out of Canada decades ago. However, since 9/11 they've been under increasing pressure as more and more Canadian pax bound for Ireland are flying to the UK or even AMS or CDG and back-tracking to Ireland to avoid transiting the U.S.

But, I digress here. I started this thread after reading posts concerning transit via China or Taiwan; one case involving dual-nationality and potential liability for military service.

Another example I just looked at. NRT-AKL is much cheaper via Guangzhou, China on China Airlines or China Southern or via Seoul, Korea on Korean than ANZ non-stop. It seems that nobody really knows what requirements are to transit or connect through given points and how possession of different passports/nationalities are affected.

Does the old TWOV terminology even still exist now, I wonder.

Certainly it would be good if everyone who has questions or contemplates journeys involving transit through third countries had a source for information.
