I figure that I might just drive to DFW and fly from there. Currently, I have 60k AS miles and 20k AA miles. is class of service important to you? CX offers one of the best First Class cabins out there, and it might be worth extra miles... That being said, DFW-NRT on AA has a lot of availability as well as DFW-LAX/SFO/HKG. Connecting to an intra-Asia flight is usually a breeze as premium cabins there tend to be pretty empty. For Y class, it could be a little more difficult but definitely doable.
I suggest you join Qantas frequent flyer program as you can see there award availability for even more complex itineraries.
