I used to suffer in silence in those cases, but no more. About 3 years ago I realized they installed that button with the silhouette of an FA above my seat for a reason.
I have not looked back or been thirsty since.
NOTE: I do give FA's a reasonable chance to make a sweep through the cabin first, but if it clear they aren't coming out of the galley, I don't hesitate to ring.
