That's because your BA Exec card counts as your ID for the purposes of the ID requirement for checking in bags so you can leave the passport at home.

The various BA web-sites actually have contradictory advice. The US one states categorically that no ID is required whereas the UK has the part about checking in bags. IME, they are also quite lax on the requirement - I once flew with my Mum and she only had her bus pass with her which they happily accepted.
