If I request the upgrade, I would only want it to be me (and if by some miracle I scored the UG, I would give it to my mother, since my family is traveling with me and she's the breadwinner who worked hard to pay for our vacation). But if splitting the PNR would result in them losing those benefits, I wouldn't want to throw that all away just for the chance to maybe get an upgrade.
