The Mad Rush for Power Sockets at the Departure Gate

I have not found a similar thread about this topic.
Flying can be annoying. Security checks and delays "due to the Air Traffic Congestion" are on top of my list.

Number 3: Missing power sockets at airports!
Yesterday I departed from a big airport, which was opened one year ago.
However, the planers have not anticipated that people may want to charge their phones, tablets, computers before flying (especially longhaul).
Half of the power sockets were not working. The other ones were meant to be used by cleaning personal to power up the vacuum machines.

Why cant airports get their act together and provide passengers this benefit?

People were running around with their tablets and searching for free sockets. All of them were taken. At least 10 people tried using one particular defunct socket and had all the same expression on their face, when they saw nothing is happening.

At some airports (esp. in the US) some tech companies (e.g. Samsung) installed an advertising table near the gate area. These tables usually are equipped with some power sockets. However, these sockets are mostly taken (they are too few). Try to get a free socket in Dubai at 2am. Good luck!

In other cases (esp. when the gate areas are pretty empty) I just have to look for a crowd of people sitting very close to each other. Chances are high that they are sitting together, because there is a cluster of power sockets. The bad news is usually that all sockets are taken, already.
The good news is that I am not enticed to risk my life or the life of my gadget, because some power sockets look so shabby.

Recently some modern planes have USB power sockets at each seat. Most often these sockets do not work. You can listen to songs (stored in your phone) on the IFE system, however, the current is too weak to charge your phone.

My favourite observation happened at ULN airport:
Passengers were unplugging vending machines and TVs to get power. As vending machine operator I would be getting mad.
Anyway, I was inspired by that. When I need power, I start unplugging (billboards etc.). Its not my problem that the airport operater doesnt get a sh+t about passenger needs.
