I've occasionally been number 1 on GIDS only to be told by the agent that I'm really number 2 for this reason.
If his is correct, I must have been added to the list this way. The supervisor who was trying to come up with options for me after the previous mess created by agent(s) told me I will get the first seat in BE that would become available and promised even to monitor the flight until the end of his shift. Two seats freed up when I woke up next day 2.5 hours before the flight so I was sure that once I check in at the airport I would get one of them. If the above is correct, the GAs made another mistake upgrading pax that were effectively below me in the list and covered it up instead of rescinding a complimentary upgrade of someone who was effectively below me.

It's strange though - why not put pax who paid for BE/First but lost their seat due to something outside their control in the visible upgrade list? Apparently, DL GAs are not even seeing such pax if they don't make an effort to look.
