Data point: I last applied for a personal AA platinum visa in April 2013 and received a 50k mile signup bonus. Got a targeted offer in the mail for a personal AA platinum mastercard with a 40,000 bonus. Applied online today using the invitation code from the mailed offer and got approved after an online chat.
