Was your ticket a J ticket while you were seated in Y? If so, you should have been at the top of the upgrade list. The highest category for upgrades is for people with confirmed spaced in the premium cabin but who are in coach. However, in my experience, these passengers don't show on GIDS. I've occasionally been number 1 on GIDS only to be told by the agent that I'm really number 2 for this reason.
