You should look for seats to select at various elite upgrade windows (starting for DM and PM just after 5 pm ATL time on T-6) and during OLCI. It would be wise to attempt OLCI at around 24 hours before your first flight., when some blocked seats also tend to be released.
Interesting thread - as a PM on 11/7 I booked DL 1767 (FNT-ATL) and DL 887 (ATL-PDX) for Tuesday the 12th and was surprised how full the flights are for a Tuesday departure. I mean, FC is completely blocked out on the first leg to ATL (I do have EC on this leg) and all the preferred, exit and Economy Comfort seats are completely blocked out on the PDX flight (where I'm stuck in a middle seat). I'm flying on an H fare so I've got to imagine the planes aren't that full or the fare class offered would be higher.
I'm hoping there's better seats available T-24 hours in Y for the PDX flight, or better yet I might still get UG'ed on both legs. As a PM I don't relish 5:24 in a middle seat ATL-PDX, especially on a mid-day Tuesday departure for cryin' out loud.
