OnePass/Mileage Plus account used fraudulently
Hopefully 1 of the experts can offer some advice here..
Without going into too much detail.. my mother and her significant other had a rather ugly end to their relationship a little over a year ago (they weren't married, but they had lived together for nearly 10 years). She hadn't flown United in quite some time but we're taking a trip soon, so we logged onto her account. We found that her ex-boyfriend changed the name, address, and e-mail on the account to his information (including the new home address he moved to after he left my mother) and used about 200,000 of her miles, mostly to fly his new girlfriend between New York and Cleveland. My mother called United and changed the contact info back. They said there's little they can do to recover the miles since the award tickets he used came more than a year ago and also because he had her PIN number, so he was able to access her account.
My question to the crowd here.. is there any recourse my mother has for fraudulent use of her frequent flier account?
