It all comes down to customer satisfaction and providing good service.

We the customers buy the ticket from AC to deliver us to our destination. We do not arrange for meals, maintenance, security, fuel etc, we rely on AC to do that. Ac should make it up to their customers, then recoup the expense from their fuel supplier.

This would be good customer service.
