The trip is over. Everybody came back safely. Thanks to all who recommended flying into Hilo directly. Luckily I had booked the trip as two one-ways so I was able to ignore the last segment. Then bought tickets on Go! for just $49 using TYP that was just about to expire. Wife says she would not have made it if she went with the original plan.
