The aircraft spent the night in PDX - your flight was the first one scheduled on it. As has been pointed out, the option was indeed to operate your flight without a lav or to not operate it all. Sometimes it takes a night in the hangar to figure out what the problem is and another night in the hangar to actually complete the repair.
