At Perth airport on Tuesday I missed my flight. I was a J class award. I missed by about 10 minutes.
I was sent over to the Sales Desk and booked onto the next flight in J. Award availability was not even considered, I was just booked on the next available flight. There was no re-booking cost.
I am Platinum with Qantas, I am not sure whether this had any impact.
I was incredibly grateful to Qantas to have done this for me, for they could have forced me to buy another whole ticket in cash if they wanted as well as losing the points, and I knew the fare for that day was $1650 for a J ticket to Brisbane.
This is the kind of thing that really builds goodwill and loyalty in a passenger, and I vowed to make sure I booked Qantas for future trips away.
Same with a mate of mine who was returning from Hong Kong to Sydney on one of my Asia Mile-redeemed CX PE tix in August. Was scheduled to fly on 19:00 (CX111). Called me with a local mate's at 18:00 saying he just got off the Macau ferry at HK Island. I was on two phones telling him how to get to airport ASAP and trying to get Asia Miles to reschedule his tix. Asia Miles couldn't do anything as CX161 was already at gate control but the service desk at HKIA agreed to give him CX161 21:25, still in PE!
I am non-status with CX (Green, but it's not even a OW tier) and my mate had none either.
