$8/day is interesting considering long-term parking at CLT is only $5/day. I'd imagine if there were break-in issues the charge could be partially due to added security. Still, the Renaissance is probably the nicest hotel near the airport (definitely the nicest Marriott property), so if you're afraid of staying there then you probably shouldn't stay near the airport at all.
