Two Record Locators for one Trip?

I recently purchased at trip on Priceline as aa.com keeps showing me flights but apparently they are not available when I actually go through the purchase process.
So I received confirmation email with both BA and AA record locators. I logged on to aa.com using this record locator and I can see all my flights (including BA and codeshare flights) and selected my seats and requested upgrades for my AA flights.
My last flight is a BA codeshare operated by AA, I was not able to select seats or request upgrades for this flight. I logged on to ba.com and through MMB was able to be transferred to aa.com to select my seat. Apparently this created a different record locator that I can see when I log on to aa.com but has only the last two flights of my trip.
Has anyone else had this happen before? Is it normal procedure? I was also given two ticket numbers by Priceline, both beginning with 125 which I assume is BA ticket stock since it is not AA. Anyway to try to find out why two ticket numbers?
Thanks.
