Americans have a very different view of their armed forces to us in the UK. I've seen kids running up to soldiers in the airport to have their photos taken with them. I've seen soldiers applauded by the entire cabin when boarding an AA flight.

Switch to the UK and a soldier would likely be punished for wearing their uniform on a public flight; as it draws attention to themselves.
