For some career intelligence positions, much the same is true for entry age maximums -- although the intel agencies have been able to basically get around that for special "skills" needs far more than federal law enforcement employers for ordinary civilian LE purposes.
Federal LEO's have mandatory retirement at 57. No one should be employed unless they have the available years to reach normal retirement requirement length of service. I'm not sure that age 40 affords the lenght of time needed. I think eyecue was pointing to something else just not sure what that would be.
Bottom line there is no need to arm screeners. Watch TSA take FAM's off airplanes and put them in airports. That would better fit the idiotic decisions coming out of TSA.
