That's exactly what my SO has told me too, so you're not alone. In my case, it extends beyond miles, though, in the sense that I always look for ways to "game the system", exploit loopholes, etc, though always ethically (at least IMO).
Sadly, we haven't resolved this issue yet so I can't give you any actionable advice
