Just one note... Marriott doesn't consider resales to be 'exactly the same' as an original purchase. While you can still exchange and reserve at your home resort, you cannot exchange for MR points and I'm not sure if you get owner priority for trading back in to your home resort.

There are some definitely advantages though, since Marriott doesn't sell weeks anymore and you would actually have a guaranteed week at a resort instead of having to purchase vacation club points in the new system.
