I wasn't instantly approved either. Got the same message. Spent a few days calling the Automatic Application Status line, kept saying pending. Then out of the blue, a few days later. It arrived in the mail.
Thanks, good to know. i'll keep my fingers crossed. my husband isn't into this credit card stuff and i don't think he will make the call and I doubt that Citibank will talk to me about it.
