Anyone notice the premium now being asked for "premium economy"?
I've kept my eye on YYC-HKG fares for travel this Nov/Dec and, of course, there was always the ridiculous premium of approximately 56% from Tango to Flex but PE was very close in price to Flex for the longest time. That is no more...
Checked earlier this week and now RT (taxes in) for YYC-HKG the fares are:
Tango: $1,206
Flex: $1,878 (+56% to Tango)
PE: $2,790!! (+49% to Flex, +131% to Tango!)
(Previously PE was about $1, 891)
I checked into 2014 and this new premium for O fares seems to apply going forward. Originally, I was thinking that I would keep my international flying with AC on routes with the 777HD because I would be willing to pay the same fare as flex to get better seating, meal, COS bonus and, starting in 2014, no co-pay. You know, value for the money paid. However, is seems that AC revenue management has "enhanced" this differential as well and now the price does not match the value I will receive in return. I should have known the small gap between Flex and PE wouldn't last. I now am convinced Air Canada revenue management is completely out of its mind and it's almost not worth it anymore to chase status. You have to pay through the nose now just to get AC to recognize your loyalty.
