I'm all for racking up miles from mileage runs (e.g., sub-$200 coast-to-coast round trips) but to then complain about the "unfairness" of getting $10,000 worth of travel out of $2000 worth of spend seems overwrought.
If someone is paying less than 10 c/mi to fly UAL and is 1K, power too them, but I can see why as a business matter UAL does not want to give them SWUs, etc.
On the other hand, I am a business traveler. I calculated out that I spend (depending on the year) 35-40 c/mi for my travel, and its been over $50K/year to UAL. Its why I am GS.
So for me, saying "no premium redemption" on (1) *A is ridiculous when (2) there are few or no UAL seats, and (3) UAL service quality is poor, then is Bye Bye Jeffie for me....
FF programs are designed to instill loyalty, and the last reason to give UAL any of my $$$$ just went out the window.
