I had been doing some calculation myself recently and my conclusion is that qualify by AQM usually use less time, as you will likely just fly "x" number of long haul. Qualify by AQS usually mean a lot of <500mi flights, but you also need to wait for your connection, hence time adds up.
For example, the YTZ-YQM example from my post above, you need 12 trips, each will be 2 days with a overnight at YQM airport. Or the NY FP idea, 16 trips, with 2 days each with overnight at LGA. Maybe someone can do that for 12 or 16 weekend staight. But I think you can do ~25K AQM in one weekend as well. So that will only need 4 weekend to get 100K AQM. even if you can only do 15K per weekend, that is still only 7 weekend, in compare to the 12 or 16 weekend where you are flying 6 or 8 "short" flights. Long Haul flight sometimes can arrange with a red-eye / overnight flight. So you can sleep on the plane over sleep at the airport, or increase your cost with a hotel.
Also, qualify AQM get you more miles in return, as you get at least 100K. While Qualify via AQS, you get a lot of 125 AQM with Tango or 250 or 500 AQM with Flex and up. So 125 x 95 is only 11875 while the upper end of 500 x 95 is only 47500.
