I do recall some of the 7D + 24-105 kits--why, though, would you think that's an inappropriate pairing? Canon wanted the 7D to be upscale from the xxD range, and likewise, a higher-quality lens than the typical "kit" lens made sense IMHO. In other words, let the 50D & 60D (and now 70D) pair with the 18-135 or 18-55, but pair the 7D with nicer glass as an option.
